Meet the artist

Hi, I’m Trish, the artist and founder of SubTropic Art.

SubTropic Art started with something quite simple: I wanted artwork for my family home.

I was looking for pieces that felt warm, relaxed and connected to the places and experiences I loved. I couldn’t quite find what I was looking for, so I started creating my own.

What began as a creative project for our home eventually grew into SubTropic Art, a collection of artworks inspired by travel, nature, colour and that feeling of being somewhere beautiful.

Inspired by places near and far

Travel has always been a source of inspiration for my work.

I’ve travelled broadly over the years, and those experiences have stayed with me in ways that continue to influence the artwork I create today.

I’m drawn to the colours, textures and atmosphere that make warm, sub-tropical places feel so distinctive. Soft coastal colours, sun-baked and semi-arid landscapes, lush botanical forms, earthy textures and the hazy feeling of a long summer afternoon all find their way into my work.

I take those visual memories and impressions and reinterpret them into something new, creating artwork that captures a sense of escapism and place without being tied to one particular location.

How I create

Every artwork you see at SubTropic Art has been personally designed and created by me.

My process uses digital drawing, painting, image editing and composition. I start with an idea, a colour palette, a place or simply a feeling, then experiment with shapes, textures and brushwork, refining the details, balance and composition until the finished piece feels right.

I also consider how individual artworks can complement one another, particularly when creating pieces that are intended to be displayed as a pair or collection. I want each piece to work on its own, while also feeling cohesive alongside others.

Working digitally gives me the freedom to experiment and create at an extremely high resolution, allowing each design to be produced beautifully across a range of sizes and orientations.

Let’s talk art

If you’ve found a piece you love but aren’t sure which size or orientation will work best, I’m always happy to help.

You can send me a photo of your space and I can offer thoughts on sizing, placement, styling or which artworks might work well together. Whether you’re looking for one statement piece, creating a gallery wall or putting together a pair or set, I’m happy to help you find an approach that works for your space.

I’m a small, independent Australian art business, so when you contact SubTropic Art, you’re talking directly to me. I love seeing where my artwork ends up and the different homes it becomes part of.
